We welcome all visitors from abroad and local towns and villages to the Parish Website for the Roman Catholic Church of St. Cuthbert.

St. Cuthbert's Catholic Church is situated in New Seaham, County Durham in England.

St. Cuthbert's Parish was founded in 1934. Park house had been bought in 1929 from the Brough family by Fr. Haggerty, Parish Priest of St Mary Magdalen's parish in Seaham Harbour. St Cuthbert's was to serve New Seaham, the Seaham Colliery area. The first parish priest was Fr Jon Gits, who arrived in 1934 and was greeted with the words "Welcome to Starvation".

Mass was first celebrated in an upper room of Park House, then the Parish Centre was built, a dual purpose building used as both church and social centre, until the present church was built. Father Gits watched the church being built but sadly passed away and didn't see it completed. He died on 1st January 1966.

The church was opened in 1966, with the second parish priest, Fr. Vincent McArdle. Fr. McArdle was succeeded in 1979 by Fr. Benedict Corrigan, who served the parish until 1989.

St. Cuthbert's Church was re-ordered in 1991, the recessed area of the Church, where the tabernacle stood was blocked off to create a straight wall. The tabernacle was moved to a side chapel. A new altar and lectern were installed. Other moderations included, new lighting, carpets and paintwork. The Church was re-ordered by Parish Priest, Fr. Peter Carr.

Fr. Peter Carr was succeeded in 2000 by Fr John Clohosey. The church was re-ordered once again. The tabernacle was brought back into the centre of the sanctuary, new lighting and carpets were fitted. The whole church was decorated and re-carpeted.

In 2007 Fr. Anthony Hastie became the Parish priest.
